How to install Stream Deck plugins

Stream Deck plugins add new key actions beyond the built-in set. Install them in seconds from the Elgato Marketplace — directly from the Stream Deck app or from a browser.

What are plugins

Plugins extend Stream Deck beyond its built-in actions. The default action library covers app launching, hotkeys, system controls, and media playback. Plugins push that further — into specific apps, services, and workflows. Each plugin adds new action types you can drag onto any key in the Stream Deck app.

Plugins are free to try. Some are paid after a trial period. They are distributed through the Elgato Marketplace, the official source for Stream Deck plugins, profiles, and icon packs.

Installing from the Elgato Marketplace

There are two ways to install a plugin. Both lead to the same result: a plugin installed and ready to use.

  • In-app: Open the Stream Deck app. In the actions panel on the right, click the + (More Actions) button. Search for the plugin by name. Click Install.
  • Browser: Go to marketplace.elgato.com. Find the plugin and click Get. Your browser prompts you to open Stream Deck — click Open. The plugin installs automatically in the background.

Installing a Stream Deck profile

A Stream Deck profile (.streamDeckProfile file) is a pre-built key layout. It is not installed through the Marketplace — it is downloaded as a file and then imported into the Stream Deck app.

To import: Download the .streamDeckProfile file. Double-click it — the Stream Deck app opens and imports it automatically. Alternatively, open Stream Deck, go to File → Import Profile, and select the file. The profile appears in your profile list immediately.

The Arise Create Project Management Prompts pack includes a ready-to-use .streamDeckProfile that puts prompt cards directly on your keys — no configuration needed after import.

After installation

  • Newly installed plugin actions appear in the More Actions panel on the right side of the Stream Deck app.
  • Drag any action from the panel onto a key to add it to your current profile.
  • Click a key to open its settings on the left — adjust labels, icons, and plugin-specific options.
  • Some plugins require a one-time setup on first use — for example, OAuth login for cloud services. Check the plugin's Settings panel for any required configuration.

Updating plugins

Stream Deck checks for plugin updates automatically. When an update is available, a notification banner appears inside the Stream Deck app. Click Update to apply it — the plugin restarts and the update is complete.

To force a check: open More Actions, locate the plugin, and check whether a version badge appears next to it. Clicking it triggers an update check. If no badge is shown, the plugin is already up to date.

Troubleshooting

Most installation issues trace back to Stream Deck software not running or a mismatch between what you installed and what the plugin requires.

  • Plugin installed but no actions appear — Restart the Stream Deck app. Newly installed plugins sometimes require a full restart before their actions populate the panel.
  • Clicking 'Get' on the Marketplace opens the browser prompt but nothing happens — Make sure Stream Deck software is running. The browser protocol handler needs the app to be open to receive the install command.
  • Double-clicking a .streamDeckProfile file does nothing — Stream Deck software must be running before you double-click the profile file. Launch the app first, then double-click the file.
  • Plugin shows as installed but actions do not work — Check the plugin's own requirements. Arise Teams Controller, for example, requires Microsoft Teams to be running and signed in before its actions become active.
