Switch Chrome Profiles With Stream Deck

If you keep multiple Chrome profiles — work, personal, or client accounts — switching between them means the avatar menu every time. A Stream Deck key eliminates that: assign a profile to a key and Chrome opens in the right workspace instantly.

Why Chrome profile switching is slow

Google Chrome supports multiple profiles, which is useful for keeping a work account and a personal account separate — bookmarks, extensions, cookies, and sessions stay isolated between profiles.

The problem is the switching mechanism. To change profiles you click your avatar in the top-right corner, wait for the profile menu, and select the right one. Every single time. That is three to four interaction steps just to open the right browser context.

What a Stream Deck key changes

Assign a Chrome profile to a key and that profile opens with one press. The switch from avatar-menu workflow to one hardware button eliminates the entire interaction sequence.

Each key displays your Google Account profile picture automatically, so you can tell which workspace opens without needing a text label.

Three things a key can open

  • A Chrome profile — opens Chrome in that profile. If Chrome is already running, it brings the profile window to the front.
  • A URL in a profile — opens Chrome in the specified profile and navigates directly to a URL. Useful for a work dashboard, a client project board, or a specific tool.
  • A PWA in a profile — opens a Progressive Web App installed inside the profile as a standalone window. Useful for Google Meet, Notion, Linear, or any web app installed as a PWA.

Stealth Mode for Incognito

Enable Stealth Mode in a key's settings to open the selected profile directly in an Incognito window. No separate Incognito action, no second keypress. The toggle is per-key, so a Stealth key and a regular key for the same profile can coexist in the same layout.

Who this is for

  • Freelancers or consultants running a separate Chrome profile per client.
  • Anyone with a work account and a personal account who switches between them several times daily.
  • Developers keeping testing, staging, and production sessions in separate browser profiles.
  • Teams on shared computers where each person has their own Chrome profile.
